Journey Mom

My photo
I am a mother of two sweet girls and a wild, precious little boy, born in Korea. A wife of an awesome husband who happens to be my best friend in the world. My goal in life is to be used by God to bring Him glory. I am on a journey through this life to do just that, only with His help.

Update: Long and Long Overdue.

It's so hard to know where to begin. I've been needing to post and update on us for a while. Our computer/Internet access was down until Sat. and since then I've only been on here a little at a time. Most of the time with a little guy wanting my attention. Our boy came home Tuesday May 12 at 8:03 or so. I had never been to KC airport and I found it very user friendly. I had been told to try to get a gate pass, but when we got there we realized no passes are needed, because the people getting off the planes go directly through a doorway and we waited on just the other side. We could see all the people coming off the plane. Our social worker warned us that the babies are usually last off. She was right. Person after person came through the gate until finally my MIL said, "Here she comes" An Asian woman carrying a baby and a large blue bag came into sight. We watched as she proceeded on through the doorway. She knew who we were immediately. I asked her if I could hold him. Then came one of the strangest moments in my life. I lifted my boy up out of her arms. He and I stared at each other. I can only describe it as surreal. Everything seemed to pause all around us. It was amazing. Later I remembered feeling the same way two other times in my life, the two moments I first saw my girls when they were born. My in-laws, parents and of course Josh and the girls were waiting. I turned around and felt like I was in a dream. This boy we had waited and hoped and prayed for, for so long was finally here. We let each grandparent take a turn holding him. He was such a sweet boy from the first moment. Now that I look back I think he was probably a little over whelmed. He kept leaning down toward the girls and reaching for them. We went on to the hotel where we spent the night. He didn't cry one time and he SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT!! I didn't of course, because I kept staring at him and expecting him to wake up at any moment. The next day we travel home. The kid was so good in the car. He slept and played and pooped out of his clothes. Only then did he let out the faintest whimper, so we cleaned him up. Our next few days at home went well. He did eventually cry which actually made me feel a lot better. I wanted him to feel comfortable enough to let us know what he needed. On night two he cried for "Omma" his foster mother. But he would let us comfort him and would go back to sleep. He did that one other night. Sleeping has been pretty good except the past week and that is due to teething, but his adjustment is going really well. He has been napping in his crib and co-sleeping with us at night (we are trying to transition to the pack and play at night, it's going okay) From the first night he seemed to want me and he is already loving mommy and daddy. He actually said "Dada" yesterday. I also think the other day he said "ball", but who really knows. He likes his sisters but can get a little over-whelmed by all the love and attention they give. I have to say "put him down" quite a few times a day. But we are all adjusting and getting used to being a family of 5.
We used both his Korean and American names for about a week and then started using his American name exclusively since he seems to be answering to it now. I just can't believe how well he is doing. He is a sweet and easy-going baby, but very active. He already crawls like a pro and is pulling up (he was 10 months on the 19th). He has had a few tumbles so far, but nothing too major. When he had been home for about 10 days we went to the lake with my family. It's only about an hour away so Josh and I decided to give it a try and if it went horribly we would come home. Well that little guy did pretty great. I think he had a good time. We let my family hold him some, but we were usually close by and took him if he needed us. We went to church yesterday but kept him with us the whole time. No nursery for this guy, at least not for a while. He did really great and even slept through the service that can get kind of loud. I have to say, I was a little scared about adjustment due to some of the stories I've heard, but he is a dream baby so far. I'll post some pics and a video, if they'll work.
